Scott Library is excited to once again host the Carnegie Science Center’s wonderful FREE traveling science program for kids, which is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline. Students entering grades 2 thru 6 in the Fall of 2015 are welcome to participate.
This year’s topic is Bioscience. Bioscience is the study of living things (plants, animals, and humans). Students will take cultures from dirty surfaces and watch bacteria grow in Petri dishes over the four days of camp and compare to clean surface cultures and also will participate in a simulated disease transmission activity. Students will learn that scientists can discover new medicines and vaccines that help humans and animals by studying living things.
Students will receive safety glasses, lap aprons and activity books to keep. At the end of the four-day session, students will receive a certificate of completion for participating in the program at a ceremony that the parents and families are invited to attend.
This free program will be run in 2 sessions from:
Tuesday, August 11th through Friday, August 14th
Session 1 will be at 12:30 – 1:30 for those entering grades 2-4 in the Fall of 2015
Session 2 will be at 2:00 – 3:00 for those entering grades 4-6 in the Fall of 2015
Pre-registration is required in person and a parental release form must be signed before any child is allowed to participate.
Sign up is on a first come first serve basis. Please inform us ASAP if your plans change.
Registration requires attendance at EVERY session!
