What does the Board do?

A handbook for Public Library Trustees is a good place to start to learn more about the role of a board member.

In Scott Township our Library Board is composed of 7 appointed members.

Board Members are interested in the future direction of the library. The Library Board is responsible for setting the mission, vision, and strategic plan for the library.

They play a key role in advocating for the library.

Members of the Board conduct the evaluation of the director.

Board members learn more about ACLA and the eiNetwork, both of which support the Scott Library.

They have the final say in the financial matters of the library.

Trustees help hone the policies of the library. Policy topics cover a wide range:

  • Unattended children,

  • Collection development,

  • Reconsideration of Library Materials,

  • Confidentiality of Library Records, and

  • Problem patron behavior.

If any of these appeal to you then perhaps you might consider becoming a Trustee for the library.

Make a difference—become involved!!
